pause, look, listen

Do you ever stop long enough to reflect on your life? Do you pause your life to figure out some of the take-aways that God wants you to learn? I did yesterday in between meetings.

I took a walk yesterday. I walked through the town where I first started in full-time vocational ministry (getting paid to do what I love). I prayed and reflected back over 10 years of youth ministry. I thought about the early years in Aliquippa, Beaver and Sewickley. I reminisced over the 4 years in Sterling Heights, Michigan. I thought about moving back to Pittsburgh in May 2006 to plant a church in a movie theater (that didn't go as planned). I thought a lot about my current journey to North Way. Then I prayed for the future.

I have been leading in ministry in one way or another since the summer of 1996 (Camp of the Woods in NY) until now. Ministry has some very high "highs" and very low "lows", but I am so blessed to be called by God to pastor in the local church.

It didn't take long, but that little "pause" in between a couple appointments with people refreshed my soul. It helped me to remember where God has brought me from, and it helped me pray (talk and listen) for whatever God has in the future.
